6. Stretch Out Your Hands

Holding the steering wheel all day can put serious strain on your hands and wrists. Prevent cramping and long-term issues like arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome with quick hand stretches.

Gently roll your wrists in circles, first to the left, then to the right, keeping your arms still. Do this a few times before you hit the road and again whenever you’re stopped. Balance is key, so make sure you stretch both wrists evenly.

7. Stretch Your Legs (Safely at a Stop)

Even while seated, you can keep circulation flowing in your lower body, which is important for preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition long-distance drivers are at risk for.

When you’re stopped safely, extend one leg out in front of you and flex your foot so your toes point toward the ceiling. Hold for 10 seconds, then switch to the other leg. This stretch helps reduce stiffness in your knees and ankles and keeps blood moving through your legs.

8. Reduce Eye Fatigue

Your eyes need a break, too. Every couple of hours, do a simple eye exercise to reduce fatigue and dryness.

Focus on something far away for 20 seconds, then something closer, like your dashboard, for another 20 seconds. Repeat this a few times. It helps reduce strain and keeps your eyes sharp for the road ahead.
